Well actually no, it isn't. You see london is a very densely populated place. If you shoot down a plane over london it will crash into someones house, or more likely, lots of peoples houses killing hundreds. But at least the Olympics would be safe "That'll show al quieda who's boss!
After laughing at that obsurd story I then dug a little deeper. Balaclava wearing police officers patroling the streets of london. And a cashless system of payment in the olympic area. Both have worrying conatations.
Anyone who has been in the UK during the 80s and 90s will no doubt be familiar with the image of the paramilitary uniforms of the IRA. The uniforms the police in the olympic village are wearing are chillingly similar. Having a paramilitary style police force is a chilling prospect even for those who are law abiding. It certainly makes me think about what the future of policing is going to be. If this is how they will police a sporting event what will they rollout for demonstrations like 'Occupy'.
Then there is the cashless society. An entire area of the Olympics as a test bed for erradicating cash. This is a dangerous precedent. If this was to be rolled out nationwide, which it no doubtably will, then what happens when there is a freeze on your account, a power cut, a computer glitch, your card is lost or broken, you loose your wallet or someone takes it or you piss someone off that has power at the bank? You and your family starve until you get it sorted, which the last time my card was stolen it tool 2 weeks to replace! Thats one hell of a diet.
Of course the reason for the cashless system is obvious, The banks want to get a cut of every transaction. Then they want to be able to trace everything you buy incase you are a terrorist (Don't buy chipatti flour and fertiliser on the same card or your straight to guantanimo!!!) Then they want to stop tax evasion (No car boot or garage sales, no trading in cash and sticking it in your pocket!) and they then want to make sure that they control your income down to the last penny. They will be able to do all this with the cashless system. No cheques, no cash, the only way to get out of the system is to barter.
Is this all a good thing? No terrorist worth there salt would use their own credit card to buy explosives anyway! They will just steal yours and get you sent to prison, and you won't be able to do much about it because you will go without a trial, 'cos of the new anti terror laws. And not being able to sell your old tatty rubbish means that they'll be more trash to get rid of or you will sell it on E BAY and the banks will get their cut, as will google!
The greedy rich are not just content with a slice of their own and each others pies, now they want, and will take, a piece of yours. By force if necessary. The agressive tactics of a corporate take over are about to hit the small businesses known as homes and families. What to do? Resist, create local trade groups, even a local currancey? It happening in some areas and it works. And Rich people who have nothing to do with those transactions get nothing from it, which is how it should be!
The problem with the cashless society is that it will not work! Why? Because people will always outsmart the 'authoraties' because if they are so stupid as to think they can shoot planes down over london, then they are too stupid to introduce the cashless system without monumental flaws!
Good journey
