This is an inciteful little passage, whether the writers wanted it to be or not. Knowing yourself amid the chaos and distraction of life, media, finance, work and politics can be a huge task, especially when your natural winding down time in the evening is full of emotions driven by the TV.
In the days before TV, families used to talk, practice crafts, read and think. This waking relaxation time allowed the people of this area to share experiences, become closer and do little things such as tell stories about the grandparents, parents and this was natural and important. By listening to the stories of our families past, it gives us a sense of what our family and therefore us is.
Why people would rather watch the insane inner thoughts of a writer of soap operas and false reality shows escapes me, it seems like a waste of hour upon hour that could be spent doing something much more important. Surely it is more important to talk to each other, even if it is via the internet, than it is to watch these fictional charecters. The irony is of course that even when we watch the "factual" programmes we are often watching something that is rehearsed, written, and directed from a point of veiw that makes the "fact" really just a view from the perspective of the poeple who created it.
The TV is the single most powerful weapon that is used to brainwash, dumb down and misinform the masses. Turn it OFF and see what a different world you see. Even without being enlightened or awakened you will suddenly start seeing the world in a different light.
The TV also indoctrinates people with ideas, with the side kick of the internet, it can turn someones latent and suppressed feelings and motivations and plant a seed in the mind that grows. this is then encouraged to grow by the click of a mouse that connects people of a like mind together. Even if there are only 20 or 30 people out of 60 billion who think the same as you, it can feel like whatever your view, no matter how extreme, it is perfectly acceptable. This is great if it plants the seed to awaken, or do good in the world, but what if you are a devient who has a violent or depraved agenda? Often the "gritty" drama on the TV is supposed to "confront the issues" when in fact is puts a seed into the mass conciousness, and as it circulates the ones with the dark thoughts and desires become programmed by it. I had never heard of some crimes until I saw a drama on the TV as a teenager, and would never have created such acts within my mind. I never have taken part in such a thing, but without learning the concept from the TV, I wouldn't know how to do it in the first place. Some would call this nieve, I call it unbrainwashed.
If we switched off the TV and were able to think for ourselves, I have no doubt that we would have a better society within 20 years. Why, Because most people have forgotten who they are. The gentle kind loving cheeky boy gets corrupted into a corporate asshole, the loving intellegent girl becomes the girl on drugs whos kids are in care. They surcumb to alcohol which is subliminally advertised everywhere on dramas, soap operas, comedy shows, chat shows and even adverts. They surcumb to the drugs that their pop music idols take and die from, they surcumb to the dirty and depraved world of the TV that acts as their babysitter, when the parents are out working to pay of the bankers debts, or too lazy or brainwashed / braindead to do anything different.
Get out your old school reports, old photos, talk to your parents. Remember who you were, Remember who you ARE. And act like the good person
Good Journey
